The Cardiovascular Imaging Research Core Laboratory (CIRCL) is an independent, non-profit, academic research core laboratory that specializes in quantitative and qualitative core laboratory analysis of cardiac and vascular imaging. CIRCL provides the highest level of imaging core lab services for every scale of cardiovascular clinical research trial; from small, pilot studies up to multi-year, multi-site, international clinical research studies.
In 1983, Dr. G. B. John Mancini founded an angiographic, research and development core laboratory at the University of Michigan. The core laboratory was re-located to Vancouver, British Columbia after Dr. Mancini was recruited by the University of British Columbia (UBC) to be the Chair of the Department of Medicine. At UBC, the lab became the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Core Laboratory. Over the years, the lab expanded its expertise in quantitative and qualitative image analysis to include: carotid ultrasound analysis, flow-mediated dilation (FMD), intravascular ultrasound and coronary computed tomographic angiography. CIRCL continues to operate under Dr. Mancini's direction operating within the infrastructure of UBC's Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.
